‘Up 2 Speed’ sees Dirty Nice drop a cut that tows the line “between the likes of Jai Paul and Jungle”. Its groovy pop is inflected with catchy vocal lines and addictive synth melodies in equal measure, while the story of two friends reuniting and attempting to catch up is able to avoid lyric writing clichés with a relatively fresh storytelling style. The video that accompanies the tune “depicts a dystopian prison in which the prisoner, while trying to escape, is driven mad by the relentless strangeness of the world he is stuck in”. The East Londoners have been experiencing a wave of popularity after their well-received previous releases, and are taking their live show on tour in support of Elder Island in the USA this September and October. -Dan Peeke
